An interactive art dome for the Spark! Festival of Creativity in Mesa, Arizona.
The Spark! Festival of Creativity wanted a flagship exhibit that could show light art under the Arizona sun and pull a crowd after dark. NOVA Light Labs answered with The Sensatorium, a 30 foot geodesic dome filled with interactive installations.
By day the dome built darkness out of thin air in an open lot. By night it glowed. A luminous beacon that drew the whole festival toward it.

Guests stepped into a glowing dome and worked out the art with their hands.
No instructions. Guests approached each piece, touched it, and explored the dynamic of light and sound.
Discovery spread across the room. Strangers compared what they found. Eureka arrived in company, and the dome held a steady hum of amazement all weekend.

Interactive installations built on natural phenomena, from The Sandbox of Life to Microscopia.
Every piece started with something familiar. Sand, plants, the world under a lens. The Sandbox of Life, Floragraph, and Microscopia each took a natural phenomenon and rendered it interactive.
Simple to approach, open ended once inside. Hands moved and the projection followed, with augmented reality projection mapping laid over real objects.

NOVA delivered the dome, the curation, and the installations as a single turnkey exhibit. The structure went up with a small crew and no crane. Setup was efficient. Footprint was simple.
Inside, the dome created a fully controlled lighting environment for daytime projection mapping in the Arizona sun. Mesa Arts Center docents guided guests through the works across the full weekend.
