taycan unveil
Porsche wanted the unveiling of the new Porsche Taycan to feel like the start of a new era, electric inside and out.
NOVA Light Labs answered with projection mapping wrapped around the Bellingham, Washington dealership, from the exterior facade to the lobby to the surface of the veiled car itself.
The reveal became a single continuous event of light. Guests moved from the street to the showroom as the Porsche story played across every surface.
experience
The energy built through the evening until every eye turned toward the veiled car at the center of the room.
Timing was everything. The projections carried the anticipation to its peak and held the room in the moment before the reveal.
A hush fell over the packed showroom, then the visuals surged and the next generation of Porsche electric automobiles arrived in a wash of light from every side.
the art
The design brief called for a story that tied together the evolution of Porsche and told it in light.
Projecting onto a car is rarely simple. Dark paint drinks the light and glossy panels throw it back, so the veiled Taycan became the ideal canvas, a soft surface that held custom visuals cleanly from every side.
A flip book effect peeled milestone Porsche models through time, and a naked eye 3D illusion lined up as guests entered the lobby so the car appeared to turn to electric glass, transparent and lit from within.
At the peak of that evolution the scene resolved into a gleaming prism of the future, an exacting 3D model of the Taycan, luminous and in motion.
system
The reveal needed a projection mapping rig that set up fast, ran reliably, and stayed out of sight.
NOVA deployed short throw projectors on compact stands, networked together to cover the whole car and the space around it. Simple, powerful, lightweight, and discreet.
The rig was up in a few hours, ahead of schedule. A rain storm moved in near the end of the night, and the built in weather proofing showed its hand, the projections holding steady indoors and out through the weather and the packed house.
