The Herald is an icon of the Bellingham skyline.
Daylight Properties wanted the landmark to become a beacon of art for the area. NOVA Light Labs answered with a permanent projection mapping system engineered into the southern facade.
A plain white building now glows as a canvas for light and art, ever changing after dark. An icon made enduring.

Larger than life projections play with the architecture in a way that is magical, modern, and sincerely Bellingham.
The show reaches for miles. It finds pedestrians, cyclists, and drivers from sidewalks, shop windows, breweries, and the central squares downtown.
The looks shift through the week and the seasons which reflect the very nature of the environment it is in.

Bellingham is a creative, outdoor community, so an analog artistic touch was essential.
Over 2 hours of custom visuals were rendered for the facade, every frame original. Snowflakes collide with the windows, stop motion runs by hand, and TRON inspired grids climb the walls.
Special looks arrive for the holidays and the changing seasons. Painterly one moment, futuristic and electric the next.

The Herald stands 5 stories tall across a 100 foot facade, a permanent projection canvas over downtown.
NOVA architected the full system: projection mapping design, custom visuals, and an integrated server for remote access and monitoring. It runs automated every night, unattended.
Every enclosure is specified for the Pacific Northwest, from rain and sleet and snow to sun and the occasional rogue seagull.
Daylight Properties owns the system and operates it in house, trained by NOVA.
