Interactive projection mapping and lighting is an amplifier of human artistic potential.
Action at a distance. Humans have chased it since the first thrown stone, then the bow, the lever, the switch on the wall, and small effort has been returning outsized wonder ever since.

The input is the instrument.
Each sensing method produces a different kind of response, and the choice of sensor decides what the artwork can feel.
Interactive lighting and projection design begins with the question of what the piece is listening for. These are the common inputs.
Microphones. Audio reactive control. Sound level, rhythm, and frequency drive visual change in real time, from a single voice to a full room.
RGB cameras. Color and motion tracking. Silhouettes, gestures, and movement across a frame become the control signal.
3D depth cameras. Precise tracking of bodies and hands in 3 dimensional space. Depth sensitivity allows a figure to carry light with it, cast particles, or push visuals aside.
Lasers. Tripwires and beam breaks. A finger or a step crossing the beam triggers an exact, unmistakable response.
Environment sensors. Ambient data as the driver. Temperature, humidity, wind, and light level let a permanent installation respond to weather across a full year.
Physical buttons. Tangible interfaces. Arcade buttons and pressure surfaces give guests an obvious invitation and an obvious result.

To sense is to act. To act again is to find the art was never finished.
Interactive lighting design gets interesting past the first press. A single trigger amazes once. What holds a room is a piece carrying enough inputs, with enough range inside each one, that no 2 people ever find the same work.
Cause and effect still has to be legible, landing close enough in time and space that guests recognize their own hand in it without being told. Recognition first, then curiosity, then the second attempt. The second attempt is where the world opens.
Sandbox of Life
Real sand, depth sensing overhead, projection painting the surface it reads. NOVA built it in 2013, and hands still push through the grain to raise mountains, open valleys, and watch the terrain redraw itself in the same instant.
Floragraph
A living plant, wired as an instrument. Sensors at the roots read the electric field around it, and a body moving closer bends that field into tone and light, an invisible exchange made audible.
Laser Feedback
A camera and a projector locked in a loop, tuned to the room. 1 laser beam seeds the cycle into color that never repeats, and a shadow crossing the canvas reshapes it, folds it, and sends it somewhere new.

NOVA Light Labs offers both: turnkey signature pieces, proven and ready, and bespoke creations built for the moment that needs them.
Output is flexible. Projectors, fixtures, LED surfaces, or a combination, chosen against the surface and the ambient light. The control layer is where the work lives: sensor placement, tracking volume, calibration between what the sensor sees and where the light lands, and latency low enough that response feels instant.
The why comes first. Once the reason a moment should respond is clear, the how follows, and the technical path is almost never the limit.

A projection or lighting installation is interactive when it reacts to an input from outside itself.

It is not worth it for a timed reveal, a keynote backdrop, a step and repeat, or any moment that has to look identical for every guest, and sometimes the building lighting up on its own is exactly what the moment calls for.
