Visionkit Studio

Projection mapping made a bare cyclorama wall the centerpiece of the Visionkit Studio open house.

Visionkit Studio had a new warehouse. The grand opening in Garden City, Idaho had to work as a demonstration, and the studio wanted a backdrop guests would line up in front of.

NOVA answered with projection mapping across the full cyclorama, custom visuals built for the night, and existing Visionkit footage folded into the rotation. The wall went luminous. It held a different world every few minutes and never needed a repaint or a rebuild between them.

experience

Guests spent the night inside a backdrop that changed worlds around them.

Guests found the wall fast. They drifted over, stepped onto the mark, and let the camera do the rest. A queue formed early and never quite cleared.

Revelry ran on both sides of the lens. The wall moved through look after look, so guests came back for a second frame and a third. Nobody asked how it worked.

Dude these looks are so awesome! Stoked!

the art

Custom visuals built for 1 wall, 1 night, and 1 camera position.

The visuals were designed for the cyclorama rather than adapted to it. Each look was built to read as depth, so the wall behaved like a set and not a screen. Scale did the rest.

Visionkit footage joined the rotation, putting the studio's own work into guest photographs alongside the abstract looks. Branded moments alternated with spectacle. The sequence never repeated for long.

system

Event projection mapping across a full cyclorama wall in Garden City, Idaho, aligned to the camera.

The cyclorama was mapped as a single continuous surface, with the projection aligned to the camera position rather than to the room. That is the virtual production method: the viewpoint of the lens and the viewpoint of the 3D scene are matched so the geometry resolves correctly on capture. Perspective correct, or it fails.

Projection replaced 2 more expensive paths. The wall needed no green paint and no LED volume, which removed the power draw, the rental cost, and the setup window that come with both. Load in, align, run, strike, all inside a single night.
