Kohler K150 Dinner

To mark 150 years in business, Studio Kohler wanted a dinner that honored a legacy for the ages while looking toward the future.

Studio Kohler commissioned NOVA Light Labs to answer with immersive table projection mapping: 8K custom visuals fit to every plate and glass, running the full length of each row for 144 guests.

The result was immersive dining at a scale few rooms ever attempt. A hall dissolved into light, and 150 years of craft became a single evening of wonder.

Guests entered a darkened hall and took their seats at tables alive with light and bearing their names.

There was a hush, then wonder, as the surface beneath the glassware began to move. Water pooled and ran the length of the table, molten metal poured and cooled, and blooms opened across every place setting.

Course after course, whole rows turned at once. Plates were set, and the light unraveled with them from one end of the table to the other.

A single evening where 150 years of craft became something the guests would carry for all time.

Designing content for immersive table projections is where artistic form and technical talent combine.

It starts with high level conversations between NOVA, the client, and the chef, mapping brand heritage, ingredients, and tableware into a single visual language.

The result is a wholly original showcase: water flooding the tables like a bath, molten metal pouring as it does in the foundries next door, porcelain blooms drawn from the contemporary collection, and a wireframe reaching toward the future.

Every frame fit exactly to each plate and place setting.

NOVA designed a projection mapping system built for scale: 18 laser projectors, 1 above each table, driven from custom media servers.

NOVA engineered the pipeline, the server, and the signal routing so that each of the 3 rows carried a single continuous frame across all 6 of its tables, mapped precisely end to end.

Projectors were rigged high and out of sight, so guests never saw the source of the light. Clear glassware and clear plates let the visuals refract instead of casting shadows, keeping the projection clean across every setting.

Timed to the service, whole rows changed course at once, the visuals unraveling from one end of each table to the other as the plates were set. Every layer held, from the render to the server to the service.
