NOVA Light Labs designed the projection mapping system inside The Chromadome, a timeless dome for light, sound, and rest in Winston-Salem, North Carolina.

Artist Amanda Friedland, creator of The Chromacabana, envisioned a sanctuary: a custom timber frame dome where light and sound carry guests into rest.

The vision needed a system. NOVA Light Labs answered with the complete system design and the first visuals to play inside it.

The Chromadome now runs as an open garden of projected art, with new works commissioned from a widening circle of artists. The library keeps growing. Sessions are open to the public and booking now.

Inside the dome, immersive visuals and 360 degree sound carry guests into stillness.

Guests settle in beneath the dome and the world outside falls away. The ceiling comes alive. Color moves overhead in slow arcs while sound wraps the room from every direction, and the hour belongs to rest.

Each session plays a different work from the growing library. No 2 visits match. Guests leave the way people leave a place of reverence: quieter, lighter, relaxed, and without haste.

The Chromadome

Custom visuals grown as an open garden, made for the dome itself.

NOVA created the first visuals for the room: works of pure chromatic light composed for a ceiling with no edges and no corners. The dome demands its own art. Flat compositions die on a curved surface, so each piece is made for the geometry alone.

The on site team has since commissioned further works and invited other artists into the fold. The system stays open. The Chromadome runs as a gallery from the future, a permanent venue where new light art premieres on its own terms.

NOVA designed and specified the full production system: a multi projector array, a dedicated media server, and 360 degree sound, engineered as one integrated instrument with the custom timber frame dome built by Matt McMurrian.

The ceiling is faceted with smooth transitions between panels. Manual alignment cannot solve it. A camera based calibration system maps every pixel to the surface, and operation stays simple by design, so sessions in Winston-Salem, North Carolina are scheduled and played on demand.
