ZUMIEZ
best foot forward

Zumiez wanted its headquarters to look anything but corporate for the Best Foot Forward finals, and NOVA Light Labs answered with projection mapping.

Best Foot Forward is Zumiez's flagship skate competition, and the finals ran into a fall evening at the brand's Lynnwood, Washington headquarters. An office building is off brand. Zumiez wanted the campus to read as skate culture after dark.

NOVA mapped the facade in custom visuals drawn from the event's 80s skate poster art: molten green, oozing across the architecture. The building dripped. The largest structure on site became the largest graphic at the competition.

As the finals wound down, guests stepped out to find corporate event projection mapping had claimed the building itself.

Skaters and spectators spilled into the Puget Sound night and the walls were crawling with green. Rain moved through. The projection was engineered for inclement weather, so it held, and the wet pavement threw the color back at the crowd, doubled. Event lighting carried the look past the mapped walls.

The office was gone. For one night the building belonged to the skaters.
