What is projection mapping?

Projection mapping is light cast onto the surface of a real object. Software aligns the image to the geometry of the building, the dome, or the room, so the surface itself becomes the picture. A screen always looks like a screen. Projection mapping does not. The object comes alive with light.

    NOVA Light Labs designs projection mapping for live events, brand activations, and permanent installations.

  • Projection mapping costs vary with scale, surface complexity, and content requirements. Most NOVA projects fall between $10,000 and $100,000 dollars.

    Smaller single surface activations sit at the lower end. Large architectural work and permanent installations with custom real time content run higher. Every project is quoted after discovery, never before.

    Live events typically need 8 to 16 weeks from confirmed start.

    Permanent installations run 20 weeks or more, since they include system design, documentation, and commissioning. Rush timelines are sometimes possible.

    That includes site documentation, 3D models, blueprints, a bill of materials, content design, oversight through installation, commissioning, and operator training.

    The studio is the architect of the system. The client owns the hardware.
